He tore his ACL in the Orange Bowl. If Butt is ready to play in July, that would be a fast recovery. </p> <p id="qeg1lO"><strong>March 23</strong></p> <p id="Heqb5p">Christian McCaffrey’s strength is in his versatility. He proved that Thursday by working through wideout drills at Stanford’s pro day.</p>
<p id="Heisff">Marshon Lattimore returned after injuring himself at the Combine, <a href="http://www.landgrantholyland.com/2017/3/23/15034880/ohio-state-pro-day-2017-nfl-draft-noah-brown-marshon-lattimore">putting together a solid performance for the Buckeyes</a>.</p> <p id="nBZ6PP">East Carolina wideout Zay Jones made his case to be the first receiver selected in the NFL Draft, <a href="https://twitter.com/pirateradio1250/status/844965463394275328">showing off fluid movement and strong hands in his workout with the Pirates</a>.</p> <p id="aFa9p7"><a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/248696/deshone-kizer">DeShone Kizer</a> repped the band Chicago, <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2017/3/23/15039602/deshone-kizer-chicago-band-t-shirt-pro-day-private-workout-bears">then scored a private workout with the Bears at Notre Dame’s pro day</a>. </p> <p id="7RPNIa">Bill Belichick and Urban Meyer shared some words at Ohio State’s pro day,</p>
<p id="YI4TKf">but it was the Jets who made the most noise,<a href="https://twitter.com/Lovelybuckeye/status/844951830320877568"> working with All-American center Pat Elflein</a>.</p> <p id="CEWw2m">All eyes are on <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/17652/solomon-thomas">Solomon Thomas</a> and <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/247584/christian-mccaffrey">Christian McCaffrey</a> in Palo Alto, but wide receiver <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/207903/francis-owusu">Francis Owusu</a> may have made the biggest statement with solid showings in the <a href="https://twitter.com/StanfordFball/status/844974450873315328">vertical leap</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/StanfordFball/status/844981254479003648">40-yard dash</a> exercises Thursday — though he probably didn’t run a 3.34.</p> <p id="UD8YoA"><strong>March 22</strong></p> <p id="2aNJQB">The Vikings may have their eyes on Michigan State defensive lineman Malik McDowell. GM Rick Spielman and head coach Mike Zimmer <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/844622195485761536">each worked out the potential first round pick Wednesday</a>.</p> <p id="1yWwh0">USC cornerback <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/247624/adoree-jackson">Adoree Jackson</a> didn’t run the 40 at his pro day, but looked solid in his three-cone drill:</p>
<p id="OdpzGa">North Carolina’s TJ Logan<a href="http://www.tarheelblog.com/2017/3/22/14981246/nfl-draft-mitchell-trubisky-tj-logan-tar-heels-pro-day-results"> helped boost his stock as the fastest tailback in the draft, while MItchell Trubisky threw 68 passes to impress scouts in Chapel Hill</a>. </p> <p id="qVWjUZ">Missouri State’s Twitter feed isn’t big on grammar, but it <strong>is</strong> big on linebacker Dylan Cole. Cole’s <a href="https://twitter.com/MOStateFootball/status/844565139370229760">vertical leap and bench press numbers from his pro day would have led all LB prospects at the Draft Combine</a>.</p> <p id="N7Opek">Ohio State announced safety <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/246923/malik-hooker">Malik Hooker</a>, widely regarded as a top 10 prospect, <a href="https://twitter.com/APGroover/status/844284721685258244">won’t work out at the team’s event as he recovers from surgery</a>.</p> <p id="s8C1kM"><strong>March 21</strong></p> <p id="RiQJN9">UCLA pass rusher <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/269020/takkarist-mckinley">Takkarist McKinley</a> <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/2017/3/22/15015966/takkarist-mckinley-2017-nfl-draft-shoulder-injury-ucla-pro-day">bolstered his first-round stock with a standout performance during the Bruins’ pro day</a>.</p> <p id="w0StUI">A small school standout could push his way into the draft after a big performance at Louisiana Tech’s pro day. Grambling wide receiver Chad Williams, who caught 90 passes for 1,337 yards and 11 touchdowns last fall,<a href="https://twitter.com/bradcesak/status/844259107293007873"> showed off bonafide deep threat speed with a 4.37 40 time Tuesday</a>.</p> <p id="Nz4ItL">Middle Tennessee running back <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/158593/i-tavius-mathers">I’Tavius Mathers</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/MT_FBRecruiting/status/844186643573755904">struck his claim as one of the draft’s best tailbacks with an impressive showing at the Blue Raiders’ event</a>.</p> <h4 id="GNnQ6H">Pro day preview</h4> <p id="sFxDpE">The 2017 NFL Combine has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean the NCAA’s brightest prospects are done making an impression across the league. College pro days give seniors and eligible juniors from everywhere like Power 5 Conferences to Division III strongholds the chance to state their case as potential NFL draftees. A strong showing could mean the opportunity of a lifetime; a weak one could close their door to the NFL for good.</p> <p id="j4sJcg">That will be huge for players like Florida cornerback <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/269403/jalen-tabor">Teez Tabor</a>, a potential first-round pick whose lackluster performance in Indianapolis may have kept him from hearing his name called on the draft’s opening day. He’s not the only SEC defender with questions to answer at his home-field workout. Missouri pass rusher <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/135163/charles-harris">Charles Harris</a> <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/2017/3/7/14839478/2017-nfl-combine-winners-and-losers-reuben-foster-chris-godwin-zay-jones">will have to prove he has the speed to get around NFL offensive tackles</a>. Even worse, Alabama linebacker <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/219495/reuben-foster">Reuben Foster</a> <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-draft/2017/3/3/14811676/reuben-foster-nfl-combine-sent-home">will have to work out in front of scouts for the first time since being sent home from the Combine for disruptive behavior</a>.</p> <p id="evyf0W">Others don’t have as much to prove. Washington wide receiver <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/208309/john-ross">John Ross</a> made himself a likely Day 1 pick <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-draft/2017/3/4/14813592/john-ross-40-time-nfl-combine-record-chris-johnson">after breaking the Combine record with a 4.22-second 40-yard dash</a>, then elected not to press his luck at his school’s pro day. Clemson quarterback <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/246596/deshaun-watson">Deshaun Watson</a> had a tremendous showing passing the ball, <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/2017/3/16/14945156/deshaun-watson-mike-williams-clemson-pro-day-nfl-draft-2017">then followed that up with a solid, 50-play scripted workout in March</a>. Texas A&amp;M defensive end <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/248545/myles-garrett">Myles Garrett</a> <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/2017/2/15/14532686/nfl-draft-2017-mock-database-charts">has reached near-consensus No. 1 overall pick levels</a>, and wouldn’t need to work out in College Station to convince scouts to draft him.</p> <p id="MJi7xQ">Some events bring out low-level scouts. Others can convince GMs and other executives to see a top prospect in person. New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick doesn’t have a pick until the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, but still took the time to travel to Nashville and watch Vanderbilt All-American linebacker (<a href="http://www.sbnation.com/2017/3/20/14906468/2017-nfl-mock-draft-myles-garrett-malik-hooker-jamal-adams">and projected first-round pick</a>) <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/players/208261/zach-cunningham">Zach Cunningham</a> work out with the rest of the Commodores’ departing class.</p>
<p id="ElguRO">For many teams, the litany of pro day events marks the end of planning and the beginning of the action stage when it comes to the NFL Draft. Once workouts are wrapped, franchises will have all the data they can handle when it comes to 2017 prospects. From there, it’s a matter of setting draft boards and negotiating the deals they’ll need to land the talented players they’re after.</p> <p id="DzQRHV">Pro day season officially kicked off March 7 when Georgia State, Northern Colorado, and Purdue put their hopefuls to the test. It ends April 7 when TCU, Tulane, and Portland State wrap up a busy month for NFL scouts. You can find the full schedule, broken down by team and date, <a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2017/3/7/14764494/2017-nfl-draft-pro-day-schedule-results">here</a>.</p>
